Opportunity Snapshot

This position offers you the opportunity to make an impact on a strong, stable company as you identify opportunities to implement best practices and technologies, and mentor regional managers to become even better at what they do. You will join a company privately owned through three generations and enjoy a family culture that is easygoing but results-oriented. In our collaborative atmosphere your input will be welcome -- you'll find that our people truly enjoy coming in to work every day. We've been in business for 99 years and our diverse business model has carried us through all kinds of economic climates.

Heading up a department of 12, you'll oversee all aspects of customer credit and collections as well as equipment financing. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a significant credit and collections background, including solid management experience. You also will need experience in commercial equipment sales and leasing, including knowledge of construction liens and how liens can impact a credit decision. We're looking for a professional with an energetic and contemporary approach to improving processes. In addition, you'll need to be articulate in interacting with senior management but also bring a hands-on approach to working alongside your team when necessary.

From its simple beginnings as a farm implement dealer in 1919, Quinn Company has evolved as a leader in agricultural, construction, and industrial equipment sales and service throughout California. Our operations span fifteen counties throughout central and southern California and Arizona.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • 10 to 15 years progressive credit experience
  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; we also will consider non-degreed candidates who have significant and relevant experience.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong problem solving abilities.
  • Solid organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.
The Credit and Equipment Financing department is divided between the City of Industry and Fresno, so you'll need to be willing and able to travel overnight to Fresno about once a month.

What's in It for You

High impact -- you will ensure our credit and equipment financing functions are based on contemporary best practices. At the same time, we're not looking for an "extreme makeover." You'll need to become familiar with our culture and the unique ways we do business. For example, our department managers are required to attend semi-monthly credit meetings to assist with collection efforts. We'll look to you to build on existing strengths in the department and implement change at the pace of our culture.

Stability through diversity -- like many people, you probably associate CAT equipment with construction, but Quinn offers so much more:
  • Quinn Company sells, rents and services a full line of new and used Caterpillar construction, landscape, industrial, and agricultural equipment. Quinn Power Systems is the single source for continuous power, providing sales, parts, service and rentals for a wide range of products.
  • Quinn Rental Services offers a full range of Caterpillar and other name brand equipment and specialized tools to meet all job site needs.
  • Alta Lift is a full service lift truck dealer for all material handling needs, providing sales, rentals, parts, and service for a variety of top brands.
Our company's roots are in California's Central Valley and we have a large number of agricultural customers, but we work with a broad customer base, from construction companies to government contractors and agencies.

A global Best Brand -- it almost goes without saying, but Caterpillar is a high profile brand known for reliability and performance. In fact, Interbrand, the world's largest brand consultancy, has once again placed the Caterpillar Inc. brand on its Best Global Brands list. 2008 is the sixth consecutive year Caterpillar has ranked within the top 100 brands.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, bonus incentive program, and discretionary profit sharing, we offer a comprehensive benefits package. We call it Total Rewards and it includes all you would expect plus some pleasant surprises, such as 401(k) plans with a profit share component in addition to a company match, flexible spending accounts, awards and recognition programs, company picnics and outings, and much more.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Treasurer, you will provide leadership to two Regional Managers and eight Collectors divided between the City of Industry and Fresno. You will direct and coordinate activities of establishing and monitoring customer credit accounts, conducting credit investigations and collecting delinquent accounts of customers, as well as equipment financing. Our Credit and Equipment Financing department is first and foremost a service organization, and you'll ensure we continue to take a collaborative approach both with customers and with internal clients. A black-and-white attitude won't work; for example, in making credit decisions we rely more on industry network information and referrals than on financial statements. Internally you'll take a team approach, such as working with Operations to support collections efforts or talking with our Sales team before you put a credit hold on a customer.

In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the department, you'll focus on two other key areas:
  • Identifying opportunities to improve policies and procedures, and implementing best practices.
  • Coaching and mentoring the two Regional Managers. Both have experience in collections, and you'll build on that to help them further develop their leadership skills and technical expertise.
On the equipment financing side, you'll work with CAT Financial and other finance companies, although this will be a relatively small portion of the role.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will bring a service-oriented approach with a bias toward finding a way to extend credit rather than deny it while still managing risk, such as leveraging your understanding of liens. You also will need to be comfortable interacting with senior management; twice a month you'll meet with them to review aging accounts and other credit issues. We run lean, so you'll also need to be willing to "roll up your sleeves" to achieve your objectives, such as running your own reports.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
